Why it ranks first

  • Instant Zero carries no consistency rule at all, at any stage
  • On the other plans the cap is 15% of total profit for the payout period — checked before a payout, not a breach
  • Payouts processed within 12 hours or the next payout is automatically credited an extra 10%
  • 150% fee refund: 100% in cash on the first successful payout plus 50% in Meridian Credit
  • Instant Zero, Instant Funding, 1-Step, 2-Step and 3-Step evaluations available
  • $500,000 per funded account, up to $5,000,000 through the Meridian Pro programme

X-Funded sells four routes to a funded account and publishes almost all of its rules in one FAQ, which already puts it ahead of most firms this size. The interesting part of the rulebook is not the drawdown — those numbers are conventional — it is the way the firm measures consistency, and two restrictions that switch on only after the evaluation is passed.

X-Funded at a Glance

Four evaluation types: a 1 Phase Challenge, a 2 Phase Challenge, Instant Funding, and X-Funded Zero, alongside partner models. Maximum allocation is quoted at $1M across all challenge types. Trading runs on cTrader and MT5.

The split starts at 80% on the first payout and moves to 90% from the second payout onwards, with a checkout add-on taking it to 100%. On Instant Funding the shape is different: 80% first, then 100%. Challenge payouts are bi-weekly; Instant Funding pays weekly.

Every figure on this page comes from X-Funded’s own published material. Where the firm does not publish something, this review says so rather than filling the gap.

The X-Funded Challenge Models

The three main routes differ mainly in how much room they give you and how long you have to spend proving it.

1 Phase Challenge

One evaluation stage. The overall loss limit is capped at 6% and the maximum daily loss limit is 4%. At least 5 trading days are required. The tight 6% overall limit is the trade-off for skipping a second phase: six percent of the starting balance is all the room there is, and a single bad session can consume it.

2 Phase Challenge

Two evaluation stages, with the loss limits opened up in exchange: 10% overall and 5% daily. At least 5 days in each phase, so a minimum of 10 trading days before the account can be funded. This is the classic FTMO-shaped product and the one most traders coming from a two-step background will recognise.

Instant Funding

The overall loss limit tightens to 5% — the strictest of the three. X-Funded also requires a minimum of 5 days plus 30 active days before a withdrawal. That last condition is the one people miss when they compare instant funding products on price: skipping the evaluation does not mean being paid sooner here.

X-Funded Drawdown Rules

Read as a set, the drawdown numbers make the logic of the range obvious.

ModelOverall loss limitDaily loss limitMinimum days
1 Phase6%4%5
2 Phase10%5%5 per phase
Instant Funding5%Not published5 + 30 active days

The daily limit on Instant Funding is not published in the FAQ we read, so it is left blank rather than guessed. A blank cell in a comparison table is honest; an invented number is not.

What the table shows is a firm pricing risk consistently: the faster the route to funded capital, the smaller the total loss you are allowed. If your strategy needs room to breathe through a drawdown, the 2 Phase is the only plan here that gives it to you.

The 45% Rule: How X-Funded Measures Consistency

Most prop firms cap the share of profit that can come from a single day. X-Funded caps the share that can come from a single trade: when requesting a payout, no single trade can contribute more than 45% of the total payout amount. The rule applies to all challenge phases.

That is a meaningfully different constraint, and for most traders a friendlier one. A scalper who takes twenty positions in a session is essentially never going to trip a per-trade cap. A day trader who has one very good day made of several trades is also fine — the day is not what is measured. The trader who is penalised is the one who holds a single large runner and lets it carry the whole payout.

At 45%, the ceiling is also loose in absolute terms. Firms that publish a per-day rule typically set it between 15% and 30%. On the numbers alone, X-Funded’s requirement is one of the easier ones to satisfy on this list.

Minimum Trading Days on Every X-Funded Plan

Five days is the answer everywhere, but it is counted differently depending on the plan. The 1 Phase asks for at least 5 days. The 2 Phase asks for at least 5 days in each phase, which is a 10-day floor before funding. Instant Funding asks for a minimum of 5 days plus 30 active days before a withdrawal can be requested.

If speed to first payout is what you are optimising for, the 1 Phase is the shortest path here, not the instant product. That is the opposite of what the product names suggest, and it is exactly the kind of detail that only shows up when you read the rules rather than the pricing page.

X-Funded Payouts and Profit Split

Challenges pay bi-weekly. Instant Funding pays weekly. The split on the challenges begins at 80% for the first payout and rises to 90% from the second onwards, and an add-on at checkout takes it to 100%. Instant Funding starts at 80% and then moves to 100%.

The 80% first payout is worth pricing in properly. If you expect to take one payout and stop, your effective split is 80%, not the 90% or 100% on the sales page. The advertised number only applies to traders who stay.

The Two Rules That Change When You Get Funded

This is the part of the X-Funded rulebook that deserves the most attention, because it is where the funded account is stricter than the evaluation rather than looser.

Expert Advisors are permitted only during the challenge phases. Once you transition to a funded account, X-Funded states that these tools are no longer allowed. If your evaluation was passed by an algorithm, you cannot run that algorithm on the account it earned you. For an automated trader, that single line decides whether this firm is usable at all.

News trading follows the same pattern. It is allowed during challenges and prohibited on funded accounts, where a 5-minute stop loss is also required.

Neither rule is hidden — both are published — but both invert the usual assumption that passing the evaluation is the hard part and the funded account is where you finally get to trade your strategy.

Is X-Funded Worth It?

It suits a discretionary trader who takes several positions per session, wants a per-trade consistency rule rather than a per-day one, and does not depend on automation or on trading news releases.

It does not suit an algorithmic trader, for the reason above. It also does not suit anyone whose edge concentrates into a single large position, since that is precisely what the 45% rule is built to catch, and it is a poor fit for a trader who wants maximum room on a one-phase product — 6% overall is tight next to firms offering 8% to 10% static on comparable plans.

On the two criteria that carry the most weight in our ranking, X-Funded scores mid-table: the payout policy is a clear cadence with no published processing commitment or penalty attached, and the rulebook is permissive on consistency but restrictive on tooling.

X-Funded Alternatives

If the EA restriction or the tight one-phase drawdown rules X-Funded out, these are the closest comparisons on the criteria that actually decide accounts.

Meridian Funded — first in our ranking

Instant Zero carries no consistency rule at all, at any stage. On the other plans, the cap is 15% of total profit for the payout period, checked before a payout rather than treated as a breach. The split starts at 90% and scales to 100%, payouts are processed within 12 hours or the next payout is automatically credited an extra 10%, and the evaluation fee comes back as a 150% refund: 100% in cash on the first successful payout plus 50% in Meridian Credit. Funded accounts run to $500,000, and up to $5,000,000 through the Meridian Pro programme. See Meridian Funded.

FundedSquad

The obvious comparison for the consistency question, because it does the opposite: FundedSquad scores the single best trading day as a percentage of total profit — 20% on Lite Instant, 20% on the 2-Step Squad funded stage and 35% on the 2-Step Fast. It also allows EAs on all models, which is the specific thing X-Funded takes away at funding. Read our FundedSquad review, or visit fundedsquad.com.

FTMO

The reference point for a 2 Phase product, and the comparison most traders leaving X-Funded will make. Both firms cover it in the ranking on our prop firm comparison.
